The internet frenzy over the discovery of the 13th sign of the zodiac has pleased sceptics and confused believers across the country. One day you might think you are doing badly because your sign is under the negative influence of Mars, but suddenly you discover your zodiac is that of the class topper! Astronomers and astrologers, however, reveal that they have known about this for a long time -roughly 3,000 years. N.
Raghunandan Kumar, general secretary of the Planetary Society of India says, "The ancient people knew about this.
And the scientific And the scientific community obviously knew about it." He informs that the reason the 13 zodiacs calendar wasn't used was for the sake of convenience, adding, "If calculations are based on wrong observations, how can the prediction be accurate? It is a good lesson for people not to blame fate." But believers are not so happy. "I like reading my horoscope. It makes me feel good when I read something nice in the astro pages," laments a confused R.

Sanoop. "Some predictions do come true and now it seems the basis of all predictions is false!" Rahool Chimnani, meanwhile, was already puzzled about his zodiac because of the differences in Indian and Western astrology. "Now I don't know if I am a Cancer or a Taurus. This whole astrology thing is already very confusing," he says. "I have different zodiac signs according to Indian and Western astrology Western astrology already. If these new developments are to be believed, I have two zodiacs now."
But many people have come to love their zodiac and are rejecting the revelations.
Pratiksha, who loves using the loves using the Facebook astrological applications, says, "I am a Capricorn, but according to this new thing it seems I am a Sagittarius. But I refuse to believe in this." Pratiksha asserts that she only reads the Capricorn predictions in newspapers, adding, "I think I am a Capricorn because I see characteristics of a Capricorn in me. Most people won't accept that they have a different zodiac now."

చందమామను చూపించి గోరుముద్దలు తినిపించే రోజులు పోయాయి. ఇప్పుడు పిల్లలే మనకు చుక్కలను చూపించే రోజులు వచ్చాయి.అంతరిక్షంలో నక్షత్రాలని తాకుతూ... ఆకాశపు అంచుల వరకూ మనల్ని తీసుకువెళ్లి... పాలపుంత మెరుపుల్ని లెక్కగట్టి... కృష్ణబిలం లోతును కనిపెడతారు. గ్రహాల గతులను కళ్ల ముందుంచుతారు. అవును... నిజం..! ఆ రోజు ఎంతో దూరంలో లేదు. కలలన్నీ కళ్లల్లో దాచుకున్న చిల్డ్రన్ చుక్కల్లా అంతరిక్షంలోనూ వెలిగిపోయేందుకే ఈ వారం పేరెంటింగ్... ‘నిన్న రాత్రి గనక పొరపాటున ఆకాశం వైపు చూసుంటే మీకొక అద్భుత దృశ్యం కనపడి ఉండేది. నల్లటి ఆకాశంలో ఎవరో అతికినట్టు నెలవంక... దానికి ఎడమ పక్కన కొద్ది దూరంలో దిష్టిచుక్క లాగా గురు గ్రహం... స్పష్టంగా ఆకాశంలో కళ్లకు కట్టినట్టుగా కనిపించి ఉండేది! కాని ఈ రోజుల్లో అంత టైమ్... తీరిక ఎవరికి ఉన్నాయి’ నిష్టూరంగా అనిపించినా ఖగోళ పరిశోధకులు రఘునందన్‌గారు అన్న మాటల్లో నిజం లేకపోలేదు. చందమామను చూపిస్తూ అమ్మ గోరుముద్దలు తినిపించే రోజులు పోయాయి. వేసవిలో రాత్రుళ్లు ఆరుబైట పడుకుని ఆకాశంలో నక్షత్రాలను లెక్కపెట్టుకుంటూ నెమ్మదిగా నిద్రలోకి జారుకునే రోజులు మళ్లీ వస్తాయన్న ఆశలేదు. రోజులో కనీసం ఒక్కసారైనా ఆకాశం వైపు చూడని వారు ఎంతోమంది. బిజీ లైఫ్‌స్టైల్, కాంక్రీట్ అరణ్యంగా మారిన పరిసరాలు, కాలుష్యం... మనల్ని నాలుగు గోడల మధ్యన బందీలుగా చేస్తున్నాయి. ఆదిమానవుడు ఆకాశం.... ‘ఉన్న పనులు చేసుకోవడానికే టైమ్ సరిపోవట్లేదు... మళ్లీ ఆకాశం చూసే తీరికా, ఓపికా ఎక్కడుంటుంది’ అని వ్యంగ్యాస్ర్తాలు విసిరే వాళ్లు కూడా లేకపోలేదు. ‘కాని ఆదిమానవుడు ఆకాశం వైపు చూశాడు కాబట్టే ఎన్నో విషయాలను తెలుసుకోగలిగాడు. అంతరిక్షంలో జరిగే సంఘటనల ప్రభావం భూమిపై ప్రత్యక్షంగా పడుతుందని గ్రహించింది అప్పుడే! అందుకే ఆ దిశగా చూపులు సారించి ఆకాశాన్ని అర్థం చేసుకునే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. వారికి తెలియకుండానే ఖగోళశాస్ర్తానికి పునాది వేశారు’ అంటారు రఘునందన్‌గారు. ఆర్యభట్ట, గెలీలియో లాంటి గొప్ప ఖగోళ శాస్తవ్రేత్తలను ఆకర్షించింది ఈ అకాశమే. అప్పట్లో అల్లుకున్న ఎన్నో అపోహలు, ఇంకెన్నోమూఢవిశ్వాసాలు... వీటిని గుడ్డిగా నమ్మే ఎందరో ఛాందసవాదులు... వీటన్నిటిపై పోరాటం సాగించి, వీరు చేసిన కృషి, శ్రమ ఫలితాల వల్ల మానవుడు చందమామ పై జెండా ఎగురవేసి... అంగారక గ్రహం పైకి అడుగు పెట్టే దశకి చేరుకుంది మానవజాతి. ఈ ప్రయోగాలు, పరిశోధనలు చేసి నిజాన్ని నిరూపించి ఉండకపోతే అంతరిక్షం నేటికీ ఒక మిస్టరీగానే మిగిలిపోయుండేది. మరో గ్రహం వెతుక్కోవాలి.... అయితే అంతరిక్షంలో కనుక్కోవలసినవి, అర్థం చేసుకోవలసినవి ఇంకా చాలా ఉన్నాయి. ఆ అవసరం ఇప్పుడు మరీ ఎక్కువ అయ్యింది. ఇటీవల ప్రఖ్యాత ఖగోళ శాస్తజ్ఞ్రుడు స్టీఫెన్ హాకింగ్ చేసిన వ్యాఖ్యలు ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ప్రజలు విస్తుపోయేలా చేశాయి. ‘మనం ఈ గ్రహాన్ని ఖాళీ చేసే రోజు దగ్గర పడింది. ఇంకెన్నో రోజులు ఇక్కడ ఉండటానికి పరిస్థితులు అనువుగా ఉండవు. ఏ కారణం చేతనైతే ఈ గ్రహం మనుష్యులకి ఇతర జీవరాసి మనుగడకు యోగ్యంగా మారిందో ఆ పరిస్థితులన్నీ నెమ్మదిగా హరించుకుపోతున్నాయి. ఇక ఇక్కడ మానవజాతి మనుగడ కష్టం! ఇక్కడ పరిసరాలను, పర్యావరణాన్ని పోలిన మరో గ్రహాన్ని వెంటనే వెతుక్కోపోతే ఇక మనం అంతం అవ్వాల్సిందే!’ అన్నది ఆయన వ్యాఖల సారాంశం. విస్మయాన్ని కలిగించే ఈ సంగతి వింటే ఆకాశం వైపుకి మరింత ఆశక్తితో అర్జెంట్‌గా చూడాల్సిన పరిస్థితి ఏర్పడిందని అర్థం అవుతోంది. రానున్న రోజుల్లో మన అడ్రెస్‌కు దేశం, ఖండం కాకుండా గ్రహం అనే లైన్ వచ్చి చేరనుందన్న సంగతి అవగతమవుతోంది. ఇబ్బుడిముబ్బిడిగా పెరిగిపోతున్న ప్రపంచ జనాభా కూడా ఈ దిశగా మనల్ని తోస్తోంది. కారణాలు ఏమైనా మన మనుగడకు, భవిష్యత్తు కోసం ఆకాశం వైపుకి చూసే సమయం రానే వచ్చింది. నేటి పిల్లలు... రేపటి శాస్తవ్రే త్తలు సౌరసునామీలు వచ్చి భూమిని భస్మం చేస్తాయని...2012లో ప్రపంచం అంతం కాబోతుందన్న వార్తలు అందరిలో అంతరిక్షం పై ఆసక్తిని ఇప్పటికే పెంచాయి. ఈ పరిస్థితిలలో తల్లిదండ్రులు, అధ్యాపకుల పై అంతరిక్షం పై పిల్లలకి అవగాహన కలిపించవలసిన బాధ్యత పడింది. ఎందుకంటే ఈ భూమికి కాబోయే వారసులు వీరే! భూమిని కాపాడుకోవలసిన అవసరం గురించి పిల్లలకు విడమరచి చెప్పాలి. ఆ దిశగా ప్రోత్సహించాలి. నేడు ప్రపంచాన్ని కలవర పెడుతున్న గ్లోబల్ వార్మింగ్, ఓజోన్ పొరలో చిల్లులు... ఆమ్లవర్షాలు లాంటి సమస్యలకు పరిష్కారం కనుక్కునేబాధ్యత వారి పై ఉంది. మన దేశ భావి పౌరుల నుంచి మరో ఆర్యభట్ట... మరో గెలీలియో అవతరించవలసిన సమయం ఆసన్నమయ్యింది. ఖగోళశాస్త్రంలో ప్రపంచం గర్వించేలా పరిశోధనలు చేసి అంతరిక్షం అంతు చూడటానికి వ్యోమగాములుగా, పరిశోధకులుగా మారటానికి మన పిల్లలని ప్రోత్సహించాల్సిన అవసరం తల్లిదండ్రుల పై ఉంది. చంద్రుని పై నీళ్లు ఉన్నాయని కనిపెట్టిన ఘనత మన భారత శాస్తవ్రేత్తలది. మున్ముందు మన దేశం సూర్యుడు, చంద్రుడు, అంగారక గ్రహం పై కాలు పెట్టడానికి సన్నాహాలు చేస్తుంది. ఈ ప్రయోగానికి మన దేశానికి ఎంతో మంది శాస్తవ్రేత్తల అవసరం ఉంది. ఆసక్తిని పెంచే ఆస్ట్రానమీ క్లబ్.... పిల్లలలో ఖగోళ శాస్త్రం పై ఆసక్తిని పెంచటానికి చాలా స్కూళ్లలోప్రయత్నాలు మొదలయ్యాయి. ఆస్ట్రానమీ క్లబ్‌ల పేరుతో పిల్లలకు దీని పై అవగాహన కలిగిస్తున్నారు. ఈ క్లబ్స్ ద్వారా అంతరిక్షానికి సంబంధించిన పూర్తి సమాచారాన్ని తెలుసుకోవచ్చు. ఈ సబ్జెక్ట్ పై వచ్చే డౌట్స్‌కు సందేహనివృత్తి చేసుకోవచ్చు. అంతరిక్షంలో జరిగే అద్భుతాలను ప్రత్యక్షంగా చూడటమే కాదు వాటి పరిణామం భూమిపై ఎలా పడుతుందో గమనించవచ్చు. నక్షత్రాలు, గ్రహాల జాడను కనిపెట్టవచ్చు. ఈ ఇంట్రస్ట్‌ని ఇలాగే పెంచుకుంటూపోతే రేపటి రోజు మీ పిల్లలు కొత్త గ్రహాలు కనిపెట్టే దశకు చేరుకుంటారేమో!? ఎవరికి తెలుసు. అందుకే ఆలశ్యం చేయకుండా పిల్లలకు ఆకాశం వైపు చూసే అలవాటును చేయండి. స్కూల్లో నాలుగుగోడల మధ్య వంచిన తల ఎత్తకుండా చదివిన చదువుకి బుర్ర వాచిపోయి ఇంటికి వ చ్చిన పిల్లలను చిరుచీకట్లు కమ్ముకుంటున్న వేళ కాసేపు ఆకాశం వైపు చూడమనండి. ఎందుకంటే అమెరికాలో జరిపిన పరిశోధనలలో ఇలా చేయటంవల్ల మనసుకి ఎంతో ప్రశాంతత చేకూరుతుందని...స్ట్రెస్ లెవెల్స్ తగ్గుతాయని బయటపడింది. వారంలో మూడు రోజులైనా మీ పిల్లలతోకలిసి ప్లానెట్ వాచింగ్, స్టార్ గేజింగ్‌వంటివి చేయటం ఆరోగ్యానికి మంచి చేయటమే కాదు మీ మధ్య బాంధవ్యాన్ని కూడా పెంచుతుందనటంలో ఎటువంటి సందేహం లేదు. ఇక ఆలస్యం దేనికి... - కవిత .ఎం, సాక్షి ఫీచర్స్ ప్రతినిధి ఈ సంవత్సరం... ఈ సంవత్సరం ఆకాశంలో జరిగే కొన్ని అద్భుతాలు ఇవి. టెలిస్కోప్ సహాయం లేకుండా వీటిని కంటితో చూడవచ్చు. తప్పకుండా మీ పిల్లలతో కలిసి ఈ దృశ్యాలను చూసి ఆనందిస్తారని ఆశిస్తున్నాం. ** శని గ్రహం భూమికి దగ్గరగా వచ్చి ఆకాశంలో దేదీప్య మానంగా వెలిగిపోతూ కనిపిస్తుంది. ** గురు గ్రహం భూమికి దగ్గరగా వచ్చి కంటికి కనిపిస్తుంది ** శుక్ర గ్రహాన్ని కూడా కంటితో చూసే అవకాశం లభిస్తుంది. ** సంవత్సరాంతం వరకూ శుక్ర గ్రహం ఉదయం పూట ఆకాశంలో కనిపించటం. సంవత్సరాంతంలో మాత్రం సాయంత్రం వేళలో కనిపిస్తుంది. ** ఉల్కాపాతం ** చంద్రుడు, గ్రహాలు ఒకదానికొకటి దగ్గరగా ఉన్నట్టు కనిపించటం. వీటికి సంబంధించిన పూర్తి సమాచారాన్ని www.ourplanets.com అనే వెబ్‌సైట్ నుంచి పొందవచ్చు. గెలీలియో... టెలిస్కోప్! ఖగోళ శాస్తవ్రేత్త గెలీలియో టెలిస్కోప్‌ను కనుక్కున్నాడని చాలామంది అనుకుంటారు. నిజానికి నెదర్‌ల్యాండ్స్‌లో లెన్సులు తయారు చేసే వృత్తిలో హన్స్ లిప్పర్‌షే అనే వ్యక్తి దూరంగా ఉన్న వస్తువులను అతి దగ్గరగా చూపించే పరికరాన్ని తయారు చేశాడన్న వార్త గెలీలియో చెవిన పడిందట. అప్పటికే అంతరిక్షంపై పరిశోధనలు సాగిస్తున్న గెలీలియోకి వెంటనే తన దగ్గర ఉన్న పరికరాలతో తనే స్వయంగా ఒక టెలిస్కోప్‌ను తయారు చేసుకున్నాడు. ఇక ఆ తరవాతి విషయం అందరికీ తెలిసిందే! గ్రహాలను కనుక్కోవటం దగ్గరనుంచి అంతరిక్షానికి సంబంధించి ఎన్నో కొత్త అద్భుతాలను మనకు పరిచయం చేసిన ఘనత ఆయనదే. కంటితోనూ చూడవచ్చు ‘మా దగ్గర టెలిస్కోప్ లేదు, మేం ఆకాశం వైపుకి చూస్తే ఏం తెలుస్తుంది’ అని చాలామంది అనుకుంటారు. మన పూర్వికుల కేవలం కళ్లతోటే గ్రహాల జాడను తెలుసుకునే వారు. మీరు కూడా క్రింద చెప్పిన విషయాలు తెలుసుకుంటే ఈ పని సులభం అవుతుంది. ** గ్రహాలు స్వయంప్రకాశాలు కావు. రాత్రి పూట చంద్రుడి వెలుగు వీటి పై పడటంతో వీటిని గుర్తు పట్టడానికి సులువుగా ఉంటుంది. ** గ్రహాలు నక్షత్రాల్లాగా మిణుకు మిణుకు మంటూ ప్రకాశించవు. వాటి వెలుగు స్థిరంగా ఉంటుంది. ** గ్రహాలు నక్షత్రాల కంటే పెద్దవి. ** చంద్రుడు ప్రతి రోజు ఒక కొత్త నక్షత్రానికి లేదా గ్రహానికి దగ్గరగా కనిపిస్తాడు ఈ పాయింట్స్ ఆధారం చేసుకుని తప్పకుండా మీ పిల్లలతో కలిసి ఈ సెలెస్టియల్ వండర్స్‌ని తిలకించండి. - ఎన్. శ్రీ రఘునందన్ కుమార్, ఖగోళ పరిశోధకులు, ప్లానె టరీ సొసైటీ ఆఫ్ ఇండియా వ్యవస్థాపక కార్యదర్శి

Total Lunar Eclipse on 21 December 2010 - Not Visible In India - Timings

TWO CELESTIAL EVENTS ON 21 DECEMBER

(Total Lunar Eclipse – Not Visible In India & Winter Solstice - Shortest Day of the year)

On 21st December 2010 last eclipse of the year which is Total Lunar Eclipse would occur. The eclipse will be visible in the region covering Europe, West Africa, the Americas, the Pacific Ocean, eastern Australia, the Philippines and eastern and northern Asia. Whereas this eclipse is not visible in India.

TIMINGS As Per Indian Standard Time (IST): Broadly speaking the Eclipse begins at 10.58 a.m. IST passing through various phases and ends at 4. 36 p.m. IST.

However the Umbral phase is generally considered as actual eclipse for various ceremonies by general public. i.e. Moon enters the Umbra (dark part of earth shadow ) at 12.02 p.m IST and leaves umbra at 3.32 p.m IST. Importantly Moon enters totality phase at 1.10 p.m noon and ends at 2.24 p.m.

Next Eclipse: The next Eclipse which is Partial Solar Eclipse will occur on 4th January 2011 and would be visible in few northern states of India whereas rest of the country cannot see this eclipse. Importantly the next Lunar Eclipse visible from India would occur on 15 June 2011 which is Total Lunar Eclipse.

Winter Solstice – Shortest Day Longest Night: another event Winter Solstice will occur on 21st Dec, 2010 (11:38p.m UTC) due to which people (in northern hemisphere countries) can experience the day to be short and night to be longest. This occurs because Earth’s axial tilt (on 21 Dec 2010) is farthest away from the sun.

Explanation/Notes :
Brief about Lunar Eclipse: A Lunar Eclipse occurs when earth in course of its orbit around sun, comes between moon and sun such a way that moon his hidden in the shadow cast by earth. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned in a straight line, Hence lunar eclipse occurs only when there is full moon.

Penumbra (pratchaya) and Umbra (chaya) : Earth’s shadow has two parts Penumbra (outer lighter part) and Umbra (darker part). All Lunar Eclipse begin with moon first entering penumbra at one end passing through umbral phase and ending with leaving the penumbra on other end. Generally only the Umbral phase (Beginning & Ending) is commonly considered as actual eclipse by general public to follow various rituals and traditions leaving Penumbra passage of moon.

Earth Tilted on its Axis: The Earth during course of its journey around sun rotates on its axis with a tilt of about 23.4°. This phenomenon is the main cause which regulates seasons on earth. Importantly the hemisphere which currently tilted toward the Sun experiences more hours of sunlight each day and the hemisphere facing away from sun will receive less hours of sunlight.
